Time Before Me...
It's been over 4 years since I've gotten sick, and of course, it happens right after I was fired. I blame the sore throat I received when I came back from Florida, and even though it was minor and recovered in a day, it led to a partial sickness for a week. I say partial because it's not knocking me out or causing me not to be able to move, but I did have a slight fever and the drowsiness along with a slight headache is making me unable to concentrate. Because of this, I've put off job searching until I can really think about it, but also because attempting to look for jobs so quickly will lead to mistakes if I just start sending resumes without thinking. I have time to think, and I could use a break from everything for at least a month. However, even though I'm not working any more, it doesn't meant I should slack off. I've been keeping my schedule of waking up at 9-10am so I can work on either sending out resumes (later on) or working on other projects. It's not good to waste the days away by waking up late.
Thinking about looking for jobs has led me to a slight problem: I actually don't know what type of job would suit me. Of course, making video games would be a cool thing to do and I want to try it at least once, but I'm still stuck with a catch-22 of having no experience, so they won't hire me, or at least it's extremely difficult to get in. The recent game studios closing down means it's one of the worst times to try to get in since there's tons of experienced game developers now looking for jobs. Maybe I can do photography? But then I don't know where to get a job for that nor do I have work experience in it either. My mom is still insisting I go back to AR since there's an HP company opening there, but going back would completely kill any semblance of a social life for me (compared to now) not to mention my photography and art would fade away. I could stay and get another robotics job, but I don't feel like doing robotics again. I just want something new, but my choices are limited or boring (banking, HP, manufacturing plant, etc.) If all else fails, I can always do one of those, but I want to try something new while I still can.
Communication
On a random side-note, I've been reorganizing folders and backing up data on my computer and noticed something interested with my AIM logs (I have it logged every time anyone talks to me for future reference). The log started two years ago, so during those two years, the average number of times people talk to me is once. The majority only have 1-3 log files with conversations. What was interesting though, were the two people I talk to the most. The most had 510 conversation logs, though some aren't valid as we open a window to talk to each other during a specific game we play. This part wasn't that surprising since we generally talk randomly. The second most is at 135, and the funny thing about this one is I have never met her, but known her for about... 6 years now? Weird how that works out. The sad part is the majority of the people on my list I can remove down to 10 people and it would still be the same. The people I've talked to in college are no longer there any more, nor have I heard from them.
Perhaps that's part of moving on past college. Most of those college "friends" will disappear once everyone leaves, and it's only the good friends or the most communicative ones that will keep in touch. It's the same way with Facebook friends. There's a good chance they only want you for the "popularity number" and will never talk to you beyond it, but I still keep them as contacts as it's always good to know someone from the area, even if you've only talked a few times before and hopefully, they still know who I am (I've had experiences with people who completely forgot who I was and never remembered).
Dukies in Pittsburgh

Mmm, taro bubble tea.

Squid meal.

Very wide shot of the table.
I had a surprise phone call from a friend who invited me to dinner with a bunch of Duke friends who were visiting. Unfortunately, I just finished dinner when he called, but I still joined to talk to them. Since I was full, I just got bubble tea. They graduated two years after I did, so it was nice to see them again. Three of them live here for grad school, but I rarely see them. It felt like college again, sitting with a group of friends for dinner and just talking about whatever popped into your head. I do miss that. We took some group shots outside and spent a lot of time just talking. Afterward, we headed to Ian's office to play the Wii, but for a short bit since they had to leave.
